Washington native earns promotion in Coast Guard

Ed Parvin, son of Billy and Betty Parvin of Washington, recently advanced to the rank of Lieutenant Commander with the United States Coast Guard. He also earned the marine safety insignia, pollution responder qualification and a letter of achievement for outstanding performance during a 2-month deployment to Florida for hurricane response last fall. Ed currently serves as a reservist with Sector Charleston and will be commemorating 20 years with the USCG this August. Ed resides in Wilmington with his wife and daughter, and is employed with the town of Carolina Beach as the assistant town manager.
