Janice Fox Bell, age 74, a resident of Washington, went to be with the Lord and to join the love of her life, Billy, and son, Willie, surrounded by family on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, at Washington Assembly of God, officiated by Pastor Greg Ramsey. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, at Washington Assembly of God.
Janice was born in Eden, North Carolina, on April 25, 1944, the daughter of the late Jessie Lee Fox and Nelbert Boyte Harvey. On Nov. 10, 1961, she married William “Billy” Edward Bell Sr., her husband of 40 years, who preceded her in death in 2002.

Janice was a member of Faith Free Baptist Church in Washington. She spent her life working at various grocery stores and drug stores where she made friendships that lasted a lifetime. She never met a stranger and loved talking to everyone. After her retirement, she enjoyed playing Canasta, doing word searches and cooking. She was known for her amazing meals and often invited her family and many friends to sit down and join her and would insist they take home leftovers. Most importantly, she loved God, her family, adopted family and church family. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her eyes lit up whenever she would hear the words Mama Janice, Granny or Granny Janice. Her courage and determination touched all that knew her, and she will be greatly missed.
Ms. Bell is survived by two daughters, Crystal Bell Boyd and husband Kevin, of Pinetown, and Cynthia Lynn Bell, of New Bern; sister Barbara Spurlin and husband Larry; brother Sam Harvey and wife Denise; two brothers-in-law, Vance Bell and wife Jean, Linwood Bell and wife Barbara; sister-in-law Addie Laney and husband James; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, William Edward Bell Jr., and a brother, Bobby Harvey.
