Elsie Jackson

Elsie Jackson, 89, went to be with her heavenly Father on Sept. 10, 2018.
She was born on May 17, 1929 in Chocowinity. Her parents were Heber L. Edwards and Essie Stubbs Edwards. She went to school in Chocowinity but left and later earned her GED. On Dec. 19, 1946 she married Luke Jackson Jr. of Washington. They were married for 54 years.
Elsie worked at Sampson’s Shirt Factory and Hamilton Beach. In her later years, she was a housewife who liked to quilt, do word puzzles and read. She helped her husband work in flowers in their nursery and enjoyed singing in the choir at church. She attended Old Ford Church of Christ when she lived in Washington; Edward Christian Church when she lived in Aurora and then Harvest Church when she and Luke moved back to Washington while her health permitted.
She is survived by five children: Sue Goodlin and husband Vaughn; Luke Jackson III and wife Barbara; Harold Wayne Jackson and wife Martha; Tony Jackson and wife Cindy; and Bruce Jackson and his significant other, Nancy. She had 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Elsie also has a sister, Love Cox, who lives in Jamestown, North Carolina.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers H.L. Edwards and Oscar Edwards, and one sister Juanita Edwards Lynch.
Services for Elsie will be held at Harvest Church on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. and her funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will conclude at Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Grandsons and great-grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.
