Second shelter opening at P.S. Jones Middle School this afternoon

Beaufort County Emergency Services continues to monitor updates to Hurricane Florence. The storm track continues to predict the storm making landfall around the Wilmington area Friday morning. Our community will start to feel effects from Hurricane Florence today. Storm surge predictions for Beaufort county continue to be between 3’ – 10’ depending on exact location. Nothing has changed for our plan for preparation or response. Please, continue to prepare for a serious threat to Beaufort County.
Shelter opening at P.S. Jones
Beaufort County currently has opened a general shelter at Washington High School. In addition, Beaufort County will be opening a second shelter at P.S. Jones Middle School at 3 p.m. Evacuees seeking shelter at P.S. Jones Middle School should use the front entrance.
If you need shelter, please move now. Please remember, to bring necessities for several days stay, including blanket and pillow.
Animals for Shelter Attendees
Animals other than service animals are not allowed at the shelter.
Please remember that Hurricane Florence is a serious threat to our community. Please take every action available to keep yourself and your family safe.
Evacuation update
Beaufort County continues to be in a voluntary evacuation of the entire county. In addition, Beaufort County is issuing a mandatory evacuation of all low lying and flood prone areas. These areas include all areas adjacent to waterways. If you are in these area, we urge you to evacuate immediately.
