Mary “Sandra” Dickson Ballentine

Mary “Sandra” Dickson Ballentine, 84, of Franklin, paSssed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2018. Mrs. Ballentine was born Jan. 8, 1934 in Anderson, South Carolina, to the late Harvey and Ruth Dickson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Ballentine. Sandra was a member of the PEO, President of the Wilson Woman’s Club, founding member of Saturday Club in Anderson, which is still active; and the PTA president in Wilson for many years.

She loved playing the guitar and singing folk songs, seeing her grandkids, reading, cooking, Ham amateur radio, cats, chocolate and being in the mountains with friends “KF4SQN is out.” She loved Sunday school in Highlands. Not only did she sing and play guitar, she performed programs at different organizations and functions, and she played with the Anderson Piano Ensemble.

Sandra was a member of the Highlands First Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Women’s Circle. She was also was a former choir member and Elder in the 1st Christian Church in Belhaven.

Survivors include her favorite son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Evelyn Ballentine, of Wake Forest; four grandchildren, Allie Ballentine Dew (Robert), of Wendell, Lauren Ballentine, Joshua Ballentine, and J.J. Ballentine. all of Wake Forest; a sister, Pricilla Eichelberger of Atlanta, Georgia; and good friends, Ken and Susan Hawkins.

Sandra was preceded in death by her aunts, Mary, Sarah, Sulah and Bet.

A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, at the Highlands First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Curtis Fussell and Rev. Emily Wilmarth officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
