Fred “Ted” L. Smithwick

Fred “Ted” L. Smithwick, 84, of the Ponzer community, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, at Vidant Inpatient Hospice.

Born in Hyde County, he was the son of the late Fred and Annie Bell Jeannette Smithwick. He spent most of his working years in the logging industry.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, at the family plot in Mt. Olive Church of Christ Church Cemetery. Linwood Adams and Billy Smithwick will officiate.

Surviving is a son, Ted “Teddy” Smithwick and wife Clara, of Townsend, Georgia; a sister, Velma Hickman and husband Charles, of Blounts Creek; two granddaughters, Maria Townsend and Jessie Smithwick; three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Emily and Mikenzie; a nephew, Harold Smith and wife Rhonda, of Chocowinity; a niece, Stella Smith, of Greenville; a great-nephew, Justin Smith, and a great-niece, Emily Smith, both of Greenville.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
