Rotary helps firefighters in Peru

Emergency responders across Peru are now better outfitted to handle calamity after Seattle-area Rotarians delivered a shipping container loaded with retired, but fully functional, firefighting gear valued at as much as $750,000. This assistance was sparked by a 2017 meeting between a volunteer firefighter from the South American nation and Leigh Readdy of the Rotary Club of Lake Forest Park, Washington. Ineffective and delayed fire support in Peru was a problem. Their need resulted in the Washington club collecting fireproof pants, jackets, helmets boots, gloves, safety vests, oxygen tanks and stretchers. Finally, with the assistance of the Peruvian consulate in Seattle, the club spent around $1,000 to ship the equipment. Just one more example of Rotarians reaching out to help others in need.
