Glenda Taylor Stubbs Gilgo

New Bern — Glenda Taylor Stubbs Gilgo, passed away after a sudden illness on Nov. 11, 2018, at the age of 79. She was born on Oct. 2, 1939, in Washington. She graduated from the class of 1957 from Washington High School who voted her “Most Versatile” and also “Most Likely to Succeed” and then attended East Carolina University.

She married her high school sweetheart Bill Gilgo in 1959, and they began an exciting and adventurous life together. They settled in New Bern in 1967 and started new careers and raised a bustling family that included camping, fishing and shrimping at Dawson’s Creek, gardening, and a slew of family activities that spanned five decades. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother and trusted friend.

Glenda worked at the Seashore Transportation Bus Company for 19 years and with the North Carolina Juvenile Court Counselors for 14 years. She was also a caregiver to several of her loved ones for over 10 years. She was a great hostess of family get togethers that blossomed into in-laws and in-loves.

She joined Trinity United Methodist Church and quickly became involved with Bible Studies, Sunday School, and the Morning Fellowship Service. Glenda loved to play the piano and singing songs and reading and writing poetry. She loved being with her family and sharing stories from the past, and attending all types of reunions. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for her spiritual gifts of Wisdom and Faithfulness and had a life of “no regrets.”

She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Della Mae Stubbs and husband Bill Gilgo. She is survived by her sister, Peggy Washburn, of Silver Springs, Maryland, and her brother Van Stubbs of Greensboro.

She is also survived by her children who all referred her as their best friend: Chuck Gilgo (Kristi), Kip Gilgo (Sandi), Marty Jo Gilgo; and grandchildren, Josh White (Lauren), Steve Gilgo, Lindsay White, Hunter Gilgo, Sydney Gilgo, Allyson White, Blair Gilgo, William White, Garrett Gilgo; great-granddaughter, Brystol White, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Pollock-Best Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held in her honor on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, at Trinity United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
