Shelby Jean Edwards

Mrs. Shelby Jean Edwards, a resident of Denton, Texas, and a former resident of Blounts Creek, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, in Texas.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, officiated by Pastor Joel Cannon. The family will receive friends Saturday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of her son, Billy Edwards, located at 2731 N.C. Highway 33 E., Chocowinity.

Mrs. Jean was born in Blounts Creek on March 20, 1937, daughter of the late William Howard Jewell and the late Mittie Zola Toler Jewell. She was a 1955 graduate of Aurora High School, where she enjoyed playing basketball. On June 16, 1955, she married Alvin Thomas Edwards, who preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 2016. Mrs. Jean was employed at Samson shirt factory in Washington before assisting her husband on their farm in Blounts Creek. She was a godly woman who would daily seek the Holy Spirit to guide her path and was a spiritual parent to many. Mrs. Jean was a lifelong homemaker who was avidly involved in her community as a piano teacher and choir director. Mrs. Jean was a member of Smyrna Church of Blounts Creek and was also a founding member of House of Faith Ministries, now known as Southpoint Community Church of Chocowinity, where she served as treasurer. Her faith was her greatest love, and she was described as a prayer warrior by all who knew her

Survivors include two sons, William T. “Billy” Edwards and wife Sandra. and Mark Edwards, all of Chocowinity; a daughter, Faith E. Archer and husband Brad, of Denton, Texas; three grandchildren, Ashley Archer Fawcett and husband Dylan, Victoria Archer, and John Edwards and wife Jessica. Mrs. Jean was predeceased along with her parents and husband by a sister, Lucille Whitford, and four brothers, Jay, Gordon, Donald and Howard Jewell.
