Gerald Braxton Cameron

Mr. Gerald Braxton Cameron, age 81, a resident of Terrapin Track Road, Washington, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at the First Free Will Baptist Church Life Center in Washington, conducted by Rev. James L. Carrington, Randy Varni and Curtis Rogers. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Mr. Cameron was born in Beaufort County on Aug. 27, 1937. He was the son of the late Julian Cameron and Jessie Sasnett Cameron. Mr. Cameron served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Weyerhaeuser as a millwright with over 35 years of service. Mr. Cameron was a member of the Wanoca Presbyterian Church and attended the First Free Will Baptist Church. He was a member of the Bunyan Ruritan Club and the Old Ford Ruritan Club. Mr. Cameron was a regular at Hardeeā€™s in the morning and at Bojangles in the evening. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, tinkering, building bird houses, cookers, boats, tending to his grape vines, his horses and his dog, Cody.

On Dec. 23, 1959, Mr. Cameron married the former Nell Ward, who preceded him in death, March 1, 2017.

Mr. Cameron is survived by two sons, Gil Braxton Cameron (Iva), of Aquadilla, Puerto Rico, Phil Ward Cameron (Elena), of Washington; two grandchildren, Braxton and Brodee Cameron; two sisters, Pat Jones (Pete), of Washington, Judy Carrington (Jimmy), of Burns, Tennessee; and brother, Robbie Cameron (Libby), of Washington.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, at the First Free Will Baptist Church.
