Tyrrell Senior Center Director

Columbia resident Nettie Dyer has a passion for textiles. And she loves to share that passion!

Whether it’s quilting, making pillows, or Swedish weave, she can often be found at the Tyrrell County Senior Adult Activity Center sharing her knowledge and teaching her craft to any and all newcomers.

Of late, she has been showing a few center participants the art of the Swedish weave. One of her “students,” Lucy Bateman, is making lap throws for her six grandchildren, with plans to continue making more for other family members.

Another of her students, David Patrick, has taken up Swedish weave for a completely different reason. You see, Mr. Patrick suffers from PTSD, and he has found that working on the intricate stitching is a great way to “calm my nerves.”
