Rotaractors in Brazil encourage recycling

High-school-age Rotaractors from Conceicao dos Alagoas, Brazil, were concerned that too few people were supporting national efforts to recycle. Upon learning that only about 2 percent of Brazil’s garbage is ever recycled, they decided to take action themselves. To help develop a habit of recycling, these Brazilian youths went door to door offering to exchange a liter of fresh milk for recyclables. In one day in April, they collected 180 pounds of plastic bottles and 250 pounds of aluminum cans. They also gave away about 1,000 liters of milk. But they are starting to change people’s habits in a good way and will continue to help encourage “responsible behavior.” One more example of even young Rotarians doing good in the world.     `
