Thomas Edward Radcliff, 71 years of age, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held at Hillside Funeral Home in Washington on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at 2 p.m. Viewing will be held prior to the service. Burial will be held at Yeatesville Cemetery.
Mr. Radcliff was born to the late Mary Ellaree Lowe Radcliff and Clarence Jonah Radcliff on Dec. 9, 1946, in Suffolk, Virginia. He was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Elton Radcliff, and a sister, Judith Radcliff Lamb.
Mr. Radcliff is survived by his loving wife Ruth Slugocke Radcliff, of the home; a son, Scot T. Radcliff, of Pantego; a daughter, Kara R. Pugh, of Belhaven; two grandchildren, Alexis B. Pugh and Charles R. Pugh III “Tres;” close friend, Ethan M. Mobley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sgt. T.E Radcliff served his country as a Flight Crew Chief on the infamous C-130 in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam War. He was very proud of his service to his country and would often tell his family and friends of good and bad times during his military career.
Mr. Radcliff retired from Autumfield Rest Home in Belhaven as maintenance director after 15 years of faithful service. He thoroughly loved helping the residents daily, as he knew most of them growing up locally.
“Tommy Ed,” as he was known to his family and friends, was known for his generosity and kindness any time of the day or night. He was “King” of Dad jokes, as he could make you laugh anytime. He and his wife loved all animals, as together they have raised and fostered near 100 cats known as “The Radcliff Kitties,” and he dearly loved his recently deceased dog, “Jackson,” after spending nearly 20 years side by side. He and Ruth spent their vacations and spare quality time on Ocracoke Island in Hyde County and their passion was camping, shore fishing and visiting the local thrift stores.
He will dearly be missed by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, family request for donations to be made to your local veterans organization or to the Beaufort County Humane Society. Post condolences on hillsidefuneral.com
