Robert W. Whitley Jr.

Mr. Robert Wilbur Whitley Jr., age 92, a resident of 180 Canal Lane, Washington, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018 at his home.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday Dec. 17, 2018 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens and will be conducted by Tony Krantz.

Mr. Whitley was born Sept. 9, 1926 near Bath to the late Robert W. Whitley and Beatrice Burbage Whitley. On August 10, 1952 he married Reba Owens who survives. He attended Bath School and was a member of Beaver Dam Church of Christ. Mr. Whitley was an electrician by trade, however, his passion was visiting and ministering in nursing homes in Beaufort County for the last 30 years. Mr. Whitley was one of the original purchasers, developers and residents of the Swan Point community for the past 60 years. He was a Gideon and enjoyed jail ministries too.

Survivors include his wife, Reba Owens Whitley of the home, his son, Robert Wilbur Whitley III and wife Grace of Washington, three grandsons, Robert Wilbur Whitley IV, Lewis David Whitley, John Elliott Whitley and one sister, Dona Whitley Apple of Washington. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom Wells Whitley and Guy Burbage Whitley.

The family will receive friends at the home of Bobby and Grace Whitley, 48 Duckview Trail, Washington.
