Mavis Dean Ambrose Mohorn

Mrs. Mavis Dean Ambrose Mohorn, age 89, a resident of Pinetown, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, at Autumnfield of Belhaven.

A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, at Pamlico Memorial Gardens of Washington, officiated by Dennis R. Davis. Mrs. Mavis’ nephews, Brien Windley, Preston Jarvis, David Ryan Ambrose, Carlton Ambrose, Mitchell Everett and Robin Bowen, will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of her son, Ted Baynor, located at 14321 U.S. Highway 264 East, Pinetown.

Mrs. Mavis was born in Beaufort County on Dec. 24, 1929, daughter of the late David Franklin Ambrose and the late Annie Ella Silverthorne Ambrose. She attended Bath High School. Mrs. Mavis married Theodore Hardin Baynor, who preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 1966. On Sept. 15, 1973, she married George Clinton Mohorn, who preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2014. She was a seamstress working at Sampsons Manufacturing of Washington and was a member of Everetts Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Ted Baynor, of Pinetown, and James Baynor, of Apopka, Florida; two stepdaughters, Vicki Lewis (David), of Washington, and Patricia Windley (Gary), of Pinetown; son-in-law, Rodger Jefferson; a daughter-in-law, Terria Baynor; a brother, Frankie Ambrose (Dean), of Washington; two sisters, Pauline Windley (Leonard), of Pinetown, and Jackie Boyd (Gary), of Chocowinity; six grandchildren, Genia Martin, Jeanne Rutledge, Mandy Williford, Jason Biggs, Russell Windley and Allison Johnson; 11 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Martha Keech.

She is predeceased, along with her parents and husbands, by two daughters, Sylvia Jefferson and Genia Faye Baynor; a son, Roger Baynor; a daughter-in-law, Verma Baynor; a brother, Ernest Ambrose; and three sisters, Louvadia Everett, Elva Bowen and Christine Ambrose.
