Edward Gray “Eddie” Basnight

Edward Gray “Eddie” Basnight, 55, of Swan Quarter, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

Born March 15, 1963, he was the son of Linda Mooney Basnight and the late William Edward Basnight. He was married to the former Tina Berry, who survives.

Eddie spent his working career as a commercial fisherman. For over 32 years, he enjoyed being a part of the brotherhood of the Fairfield and Engelhard Volunteer Fire Departments. He had a gift of being able to fix just about anything; he was a welder, diesel mechanic, carpenter, plumber and maintenance man. Eddie often used his talents to lend a helping hand to his friends. He loved working on the water, and he enjoyed cooking his harvest for his family.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019, in Soule Cemetery. Pastor Jerald Craddock will officiate.

In addition to his mother and wife, surviving is a daughter, Laura E. Basnight and fiancée Tommy Taylor, of Swan Quarter; a sister in-law, Cindy B. Mason and husband David, Jr., of Swan Quarter; a brother in-law, Ricky Berry and wife Chelsey, of Pantego; and a nephew, Timothy James Mason, of Swan Quarter.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home.
