411 Health Fair to provide free screenings Saturday
There’s nothing more precious than one’s health, and this weekend, the Beaufort County Health Department is offering a golden opportunity for county residents to get a better picture of their overall health. During the 411 Health Fair, residents will have access to free screenings that could be lifesavers. The event will be held rain or shine.
Screenings to be offered include Body Mass Index, cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, A1C and breast checks — valuable health diagnostics that can help a person find their way to improved health. According to event organizer JaNell Lewis, the health fair, now in its fifth year, was designed to help raise awareness about public health and put these screenings in reach for all local residents, regardless of income.
“For each family or each individual that comes, there’s something that applies to them or that they can relate to, or are in need of,” Lewis said.
More than 30 vendors have signed on for the event and will be on hand to offer information and services that could be beneficial to one’s health. In addition, there will also be games and activities for kids to enjoy.
“The health fair is bringing out families and vendors to hopefully learn about other resources the Health Department can’t provide,” Lewis said. “The hospital can’t take care of Beaufort County by itself and the Health Department can’t take care of Beaufort County by itself — it takes this community of vendors and organizations working together to provide various services to meet all the needs of Beaufort County.”
The health fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine at the Beaufort County Health Department, located at 1436 Highland Drive in Washington. For more information on the health fair, visit www.facebook.com/BeaufortCountyHealthDept or call the department at 252-946-1902.
While the health fair offers a convenient chance to have one’s health checked, Beaufort County Health Department provides a wide range of services throughout the year.
