KINSTON — On March 20, Parrott Academy’s volunteer service honor society, SERV, inducted more than 181 high school students who had each given at least 12 hours of volunteer service during the 2018-2019 year. While volunteer service is not a requirement for Parrott high school students, SERV helps make students aware of opportunities in their own communities and beyond, and it motivates students to discover the joy of helping others. Washington students inducted into SERV were Hodges Manning, Alexandra Melk, Sophia Melk, Gray Perry and Parker Sheppard.

At the induction ceremony, members of the school’s SERV Student Advisory Council each spoke about their experiences with volunteering. Students came forward to receive a SERV T-shirt designed by Advisory Council member Jeff Bland. Recognized as Presidential Service Scholars, 69 students gave 100 or more hours of service in the year.
