Betty Lou Hardison Woolard

Betty Lou Hardison Woolard, 83, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away peacefully and took the hand of the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019.

Betty was born on June 5, 1935, in Washington, to Joshua and Vera Perry Hardison, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Cratch, Vera Salter, Mildred Hardison; brother, Hubert Hardison; and the love of her life, Grover S. Woolard, Jr.

Married at 21, she and Grover moved to Richmond in 1958, where she was a homemaker and mother. Betty went to work for First and Merchants National Bank in 1963 as a part-time teller and worked her way up , and through many bank mergers; eventually retiring as vice President/Branch Manager of Westminster Canterbury branch of Bank of America after more than 40 years of service.

Betty was a member of Bonnie Brae Church of Christ for 61 years. Survivors include son, Grover Woolard, III; daughter, Sherry Woolard Black; son-in-law, David Black; grandsons, Jacob and Adam Black and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the many friends who helped during her illness; especially her caregivers, Judy Gurganus (niece), April Manley and Clara Reed.

The family will receive friends at Bliley’s, 8510 Staples Mill Road, on Friday, April 26, 2019, from 5 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place at Bonnie Brae Church of Christ on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 11 a.m., officiated by Minister Gerrard Fess. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Betty’s name to Bonnie Brae Church of Christ, 7610 Staples Mill Road, Richmond, VA 23228.
