George Arthur Edwards

Mr. George Arthur Edwards, age 91, a former resident of Chocowinity, passed away peacefully with his daughter at his bedside, Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Hampton Manor in Gaston.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Ephesus Free Will Baptist Church in Blounts Creek. Burial will follow in Ecklin Cemetery.

Mr. Edwards was born in Beaufort County on Dec. 22, 1927, to the late Rufus Edwards and Ruby Agnes Woolard Edwards. He attended Chocowinity High School. On July 14, 1950, he married Frankie Elizabeth Moore. Mr. Edwards served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a welder for Texas Gulf and a truck driver for the N.C. Department of Transportation. Mr. Edwards was a member of Ephesus Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. Mr. Edwards enjoyed gardening, playing music, working with machinery and tinkering with engines. He loved spending time with and taking care of his family.

Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Gail Koffman and husband Robert, of Silver Spring, Maryland; a sister, Lola E. Gregory, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law, Louise Edwards, of Washington, and Faye Brame, of Chocowinity; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Frankie M. Edwards; two brothers, Dupree Lee Edwards and Roland Edwards.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2019, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.
