James Wayne “Jimmy” Williams, Sr., 81, of Swan Quarter, died Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Jimmy was born in Mecklenburg County on March 4, 1938 ,to the late Joseph Cordon, Sr. and Hazel Lott Williams. He was married to the former Ellen Louise Spencer, who survives.
He was an active and devoted member of Providence/Soule United Methodist Church. His professional career was devoted to the electronic engineering field with 33 years at General Electric in Lynchburg, Virginia, three years with Erickson Electronics, five years with the North Carolina Forestry Service as a radio engineer, and five years with Pamlico Communications.
He served faithfully for 25 years as the audio engineer and designer of the radio and television ministry at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
In addition to his wife, surviving are two sons, Wayne Williams, Jr. and wife Peggy, of Sumter, South Carolina, Jeffrey B. Williams and wife Rebecca, of Smithfield, Virginia; two daughters, Melanie W. Smith and husband Ken, of Marietta, Georgia, and Aimee W. Dudley, of Little Torch Key, Florida; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Cordon “JC” Williams, Jr., and wife Jennie, of Swan Quarter; two sisters, Carol W. Smith and husband Robert, of Washington, and Jean W. Williams, of Roanoke Rapids.
