Seen and heard regularly on Alligator River Refuge, the Barred Owl normally sits high in trees overlooking its territory. Mostly active at night, Barred Owls eat a wide variety, ranging from other birds, to fish, mice, squirrels, snakes and other reptiles, amphibians & mammals. The Barred Owl’s name derives from the horizontal brown color bars of feathers across the upper breast.
