William ‘Bill’ Basso

Mr. William ‘Bill’ Basso, age 83, a resident of Washington, died Friday, June 28, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center.
Mr. Basso was born in Staten Island, New York, on May 8, 1936, to the late Alfred A. Basso and Catherine Dulligan.
Bill pursued a lifelong passion to see and know the world, taking his family to Germany, Panama and Puerto Rico as part of his career as an information and software technology executive. Bill was an artist who studied at the New York School of Visual Arts, as well as an insightful writer and poet. He was married to Valerie Johnson and, after their divorce, married Petra Chambers.
In 2005, Bill and Petra moved to Washington to be closer to Petra’s daughter, Dr. Inken Van Cura, and to dote on grandchildren Devon and Tianna Van Cura. Inken and family devoted loving care to Bill in the last year of his life after Petra’s passing.
Survivors include his daughter, Darian Germain, and his grandchildren James, Joseph, Jonathan, Julia, Mia and Robert, and his brothers Robert Basso and Richard Basso.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Petra Chambers, and his son, John William Basso.
