System pressure advisory issued for some Northside water customers

From the Beaufort County Water Department

Selected water customers of the Beaufort County Northside Water District IV will experience outages and periods of low pressure as the result of scheduled water line maintenance on Wednesday, July 17 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The outage will affect some Beaufort County water customers on Possum Hill Road, all customers on N.C. Highway 92 East from Bath Bridge to Possum Hill Road, all customers on Kirby Grange Avenue, Brooks Road, Snug Harbor Lane, Velma’s Lane and Slate Farm Road.

Periods of low pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system. Therefore, the Beaufort County Water Department advises that when water is restored, consumers boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) or use boiled water.

Vigorous boiling for at least one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the waters. Cloudiness or discoloration may appear when water is restored. These changes should only be temporary and should clear after a short period of time. Please refrain from washing laundry if any discolored water is noticeable, as it could stain light-colored clothing.

This office is strongly advising water consumers to conserve water whenever possibly. This advisory will remain in effect until further written notification is issued.
