A 20-year-old woman reported missing by family members has been located.

On July 17, The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office asked for the public’s help with locating a missing person, Heather Stiles, who had left her home on Cypress Shores Road in Washington on July 15, which caused concern among family members, according to press release from the sheriff’s office.

Stiles was believed to be returning to Texas by bus, from which her family recently had moved to Washington.

1st Sgt. Brad Shackleford said that was exactly the scenario, as it turned out. On Aug. 1, Stiles was located and met with law enforcement.

“She was in a law enforcement center and verified that she was OK and doing exactly what she wanted to do,” Shackleford said. “This was a missing person that really wasn’t a missing person. She’s 20 years old — they were concerned there was something afoot. But again, she’s 20 year old and right where she wants to be.”

Shackleford said the case is now closed, and recognized those who responded to the initial press release in July.

“The public’s help in this matter is greatly appreciated,” Shackleford said.
