Sheriff’s Office busts drug distribution near day care

Last Wednesday, investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit charged two Washington men with drug-related offenses after discovering one was selling crack cocaine and marijuana from a residence near a daycare.

Deputies charged Tysaun Thigpen, 27, and his uncle Tyrone Rhome, 47, both of 806 W. Fifth St. in Washington, with a variety of offenses after learning that Thigpin allegedly was using Rhome’s residence as a place from which to manufacture and sell drugs. The residence is within 1,000 feet of Light of the World Child Care Center, located on Boston Avenue.

Thigpen was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine within 1,000 feet of Light of the World Child Care Center, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana within 1,000 feet of Light of the World Child Care Center and possession of drug paraphernalia. Rhome was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Investigators executed a search warrant on the residence and found approximately 6.8 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 14 grams of marijuana, plastic bags used to repackage a controlled substance, digital scales and $2,230.00 in U.S. currency.

Thigpen and Rhome were both confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center. Thigpen was held under a under a $40,000 secured bond, while Rhome’s bond was set at $25,000.
