David Ivan Herst, Jr.

Mr. David Ivan Herst, Jr., age 86, a resident of 8482 N.C. Highway 99 North, Pantego, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019, from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven, conducted by Bryan Copeland. Burial will follow in Davis Cemetery, Pungo community, Pantego.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Curtis Fletcher, Charles Fletcher, G.R. Fletcher, Jeffery Latham, Troy Respess and Bennie Rose.
Mr. Herst was born in Lonoke, Arkansas, on Dec. 11, 1932. He was the son of the late David Ivan Herst, Sr. and Elizabeth Magnum Herst Chesson. Mr. Herst served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Herst was a member of the Pike Road Church of Christ and helped establish the Pungo River Volunteer Fire Department. In his spare time, he enjoyed mowing grass and going to the mountains.
On May 12 ,1957, Mr. Herst married the former Leeta Tooley, who survives.
Surviving with his are two daughters, Connie H. Gibbs and her fiancé, Heath Andleton, Sandra H. Lyle and her husband, Chris, all of Pantego; grandchild, Laura Lyle, of Pantego; and two nieces, Joan Anderson, of Rocky Mount, Donna O’Neal, of Youngsville.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Herst was preceded in death by a sister, Bobbie Sitterton.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven and other times at his home.
