COLUMBIA – An invitation to participate in the Scuppernong River Festival Parade is extended by the festival planning committee. The 10:AM parade will kick-off the 1st
Anniversary of the 25th Annual Scuppernong River Festival, Saturday, October 14.
Last year’s festival which would have been the 25 th Annual event was cancelled by the arrival of Hurricane Matthew. Planners hope this year will be bigger and better than ever.
Parade participants are solicited to represent the overall community. Floats, vehicles, churches, civic organizations, clubs farm equipment, state and federal agencies and other community organizations are invited to travel the parade route from Columbia High School west to the waterfront in the Main Street Parade.

Matt Engelbrecht of WNCT-TV will be the Parade Grand Marshal. The reigning Miss North Carolina, Victoria Huggins, and Grace Ann Carroll who reigns as Miss Winston Salem will also be featured in the mile-long parade. The parade is sponsored by First National Bank.
The Scuppernong River Festival is a day-long festival lining Main and Broad Streets and including the Columbia waterfront. There will be food and crafts vendors, information booths, rides and amusements for children and helicopter rides over the town. Two venues will feature entertainment including soul, gospel, blue grass and country. There will also be a variety of activities on the Scuppernong River and at Scuppernong River Park across the river from the Columbia waterfront.
The Original Rondels will perform two shows from the Tyrrell County Courthouse porch at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Fireworks over the Scuppernong River is scheduled at 7:30 p.m.
