Carl D. Alligood

Mr. Carl Dawson Alligood, age 75, formerly of Vernon Lane, Swan Point, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at the First Baptist Church in Washington, conducted by Tony Krantz and Ethan Coltrain. The family will receive friends following the service from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church.

Members of the Bunyan Ruritan Club and co-workers from PCS will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Alligood was born in Beaufort County on Feb. 13, 1944. He was the son of the late Vernon Dallas Alligood and Mildred Frances Smith Alligood. Mr. Alligood retired from PCS in Aurora with 37 years of service. He currently worked as a part time funeral service assistant at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Mr. Alligood was a member and deacon of Beaver Dam Church of Christ. He was a member and secretary of the Bunyan Ruritan Club. Mr. Alligood was a former board member of the Broad Creek EMS. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandkids and his dog, “Tackle.”

On Nov. 5, 1967, he married the former Ernestine “Gail” Woolard, who survives.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Carla Mitchell and husband Keith, Nancy Wallace and husband David, all of Washington; five grandchildren, David Lawrence Wallace, Jr., Dawson Hatton Mitchell, Wayland Bingham Mitchell, Callie Dawson Wallace, Amanda Eve Wallace; brother, Wayne Alligood, of Washington; brother-in-law, Steve Woolard and wife Donna; sister-in-law, Janice Hellickson; four nieces, Nicole Congleton (Brandon), Melissa Wright (John), Amanda Robinson (Craig), Lou Montana Rhodes; and two nephews, Lew Hellickson and Ray Waters. He is also survived by a special uncle, aunt and cousin, Carl Smith (Gerri), Mary Woolard and Ce Higley (Roger).

In addition to his parents, Mr. Alligood was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmie Alligood, and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Alligood and Nancy R. Alligood.

The family will receive friends at other times at the home of his daughter, Carla Mitchell, 306 Wellesley Road, Washington.
