Warren Gamaliel Whichard

Mr. Warren Gamaliel Whichard, age 96, a resident of 511 Bay Lake Drive, Chocowinity, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019, at his home.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory, officiated by Ray West. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. His grandsons, Tony Vick, Donnie Jensen, Jason Whichard, Brandon Whichard, Trent Brooks and Doug Jefferson, will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Vick, Justin Vick and Grant Jensen.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Mr. Whichard was born in Pitt County on March 19, 1923, son of the late William Henry Whichard, Sr. and the late Lizzie Mobley Whichard. He was a 1940 graduate of Chocowinity High School. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army before being released with a medical discharge. On Dec. 19, 1943, he married the former Geneva Harrell. Many residents of Beaufort and surrounding county knew Mr. Whichard as the co-owner/operator of Whichard’s Beach. He was a past member of the Red Men’s Lodge, was an Eagle Scout from 1936-1941 and was a charter member of the Washington Rescue Squad.

Surviving along with his wife, Geneva, of the home, are three children, Jimmie Warren Whichard and his wife, Suzanne, of Chocowinity, Deborah “Debbie” Boyd and her husband, Steve, of Chocowinity, and Tobey Harrell Whichard, of Swansboro; two brothers, William H. “Billy” Whichard, Jr., of Chocowinity, and Bobby Dean Whichard and his wife, Cee, of Chocowinity; 10 grandchildren, Jason Whichard, Steven Whichard, Doug Jefferson, Tracy Chavez, Brandon Whichard, Kristen Brooks, Denise Vick, Donnie Jensen, Greg Boyd and Stephanie Boyd; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Whichard was predeceased along with his parents by four sisters, Peggy Woolard, Ginger Paramore, Gladys Crisp and Ruth Morris.
