Mr. Michael Thomas “Mike” Barr, age 61, owner and operator of Mike’s Mini Mart in Chocowinity, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory, conducted by Pastor Ola Forbes, Jr. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery in Chocowinity.

Mr. Barr was born in Millington, Tennessee, on March 17, 1958. He was the son of the late Hubert Gentry Barr and Margaret Louise Upton Barr. Mr. Barr had owned and operated Mike’s Mini Mart since 1976. In his spare time, he loved studying history and hanging out with his customers. Mr. Barr was an avid collector of bottles and coins.

Mr. Barr is survived by his daughter, Rebecca B. Whalen and her husband, Charlie, of Midlothian, Virginia.; son, William Thomas Barr and his girlfriend, Samantha Pittman, of Monroe, North Carolina.; grandson, Everett Thomas Whalen; sister, Venisha Lyon and her husband, James, of Sanford, Florida; brother, William Griffin Barr and his wife, Joyce, of Washington; and partner, Suzan Fleming, of Chocowinity.
