Man suffers broken legs after jump from N.C. 33 overpass

A suicidal man suffered a pair of broken legs Thursday afternoon after jumping from the N.C. Highway 33 Overpass down onto the U.S. Highway 17 Bypass in Chocowinity, according to Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Lt. Kelly Cox.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. Thursday, prompting a response from the Chocowinity Volunteer Fire Department, Chocowinity EMS, the Chocowinity Police Department and the BCSO.
An eyewitness was driving down N.C. 33 when he saw the man standing on the overpass, along with another man attempting to talk him down from jumping. The witness said he continued down N.C. 33. When he looked back, the witness said the man was no longer standing on the bridge.
The subject was transported by Chocowinity EMS to the hospital.
