Sammy Lee Ferguson, 70, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, with his family at his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mildred Dawson Ferguson; his sister, Joyce Sullivan; and three brothers, Donald Ferguson, Tommy Ferguson and Harry Ferguson Jr.

Sammy is survived by two children, Sara Ferguson and Sammy Lee Ferguson Jr.; one brother, Bobby Ferguson; two sisters, Mary Anna Pearson and Ella Mae Coburn; and six grandsons, Phillip, Taylor, Mason, and Clayton Gustafson, and Hunter and Carter Ferguson.

Sammy graduated from Stokes High School and Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College). He taught school for a few years and later pursued a career in lumber trading. He loved being outdoors and earned quite the reputation for his cooking.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Sammy to the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina, 3520 Tupper Drive, Greenville, NC 27834, website HSECarolina.org. Sammy loved dogs and adopted several from rescue shelters.
