Those interested in adopting a pet should inquire at the Betsy Bailey Nelson Animal Control Facility, 3931 U.S. Highway 264 East, from 1 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturdays. Because of overcrowded conditions, the animals listed are only available as indicated.

All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. To see more animals available for adoption, visit, visit ENC Shelter Dogs and ENC Shelter Cats on Facebook or call 252-946-4517 for more information. The Humane Society of Beaufort County can also be found on Facebook at

Requests for more information with regard to the animals appearing in Pets of the Week may be directed to shelter staff in person at the shelter during business hours or by emailing — always use the animal’s ID number.

Please note, the shelter is closed on the first Wednesday of each month for cleaning and maintenance.

At approximately 1 year old, Kasey, a medium-size, American shorthair tortoiseshell, is all dressed up in her beautiful coat of black with touches of color. Accents of orange under her chin and a stripe of a pale orange that ends with a rose bud nose makes a very pretty picture. Kasey, friendly, lovable and calm, will be a wonderful and welcome addition in a good, loving forever home. For more information on Kasey, ID No. 0030, see Facebook’s Friends of Beaufort County Shelter Cats Page. Pay her a visit — you’ll be glad you did.

Gorgeous, friendly and smart, meet Lola. She’s listed as a large, black and tan German Shepard mix, and at approximately 4 years old, Lola displays a nice personality, but she’s not cat friendly. Lola will do best with owner(s) willing to give her their love and attention, exercise in a fenced area or on a leash, obedience training and, of course, a good forever home. For more information about Lola, ID No. 0035, see Facebook’s ENC Shelter Dog Page. Come meet her; she’s available at the shelter.
