Stuart Allen Dawson

Stuart Allen Dawson passed away on Jan. 22, 2020, from complications of diabetes, in Washington at 70 years old.

Born May 1, 1949 in Jamaica, Queens, New York to Allen and Mary P. Wallstein Dawson, he grew up in Carle Place, Long Island, New York. Stuart was an excellent student and a standout two-sport athlete in high school and excelled at the shot putt at Ohio University.

He was a world traveler, an incredible gardener, beautiful bird house builder and history buff who loved to ride his bike all over. He moved to Washington in 2008 and could be found hanging out in local resale shops and eateries. He was a good son, the best loving big brother and a fun uncle with a 10,000-volt electric tickle finger.

He is survived by his sister, Wendy Thienpont (Russell) of Washington, his brother Glenn T. Dawson (Christine) of Carle Place, NY and his sister-in-law, Marie Dawson of Holly Springs, NC; eight nieces and nephews: John Thienpont (Heather) of Washington, Allen Thienpont (Kimberly) of Leland, Kenneth Pellegrino (Alison) of Carle Place, New York, Lisa Spano (Joey) of Holly Springs, Jonpaul Dawson (Rachel) of Garner, Sophie Dawson of NYC, NY, Alice Dawson of NYC, NY and Sarah Dawson, NYC, NY; and 11 great nieces and nephews.

Stuart was preceded in death by his parents and his brother John E. Dawson of Holly Springs.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 211 W. 2nd Street, Washington. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. There will be a private internment ceremony at a later date.
