From U.S. Congressman Greg Murphy
Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. issued the following statement after H.R. 5037 passed the U.S. House of Representatives Wednesday. The bill would designate the post office located at 3703 N. Main St. in Farmville, as the “Walter B. Jones, Jr. Post Office.” It is the first piece of legislation introduced by Murphy to be approved by the House.
“Almost one year after his passing, I’m pleased this piece of legislation honoring Congressman Walter Jones has advanced through the House of Representatives. It was altogether fitting that my first piece of legislation as a member of Congress be a tribute to my predecessor, friend and mentor,” said Murphy.
“Walter cared deeply for the people of eastern North Carolina, especially the Marines who serve at Camp Lejeune, Cherry Point and New River. He epitomized what a public servant stood for — his constituents. I greatly appreciate my colleagues in the North Carolina delegation for unanimously supporting this bill, and I hope the Senate and President Trump will swiftly act to make this bill a law.”
