Dorothy Janice McLaughlin Banks

Mrs. Dorothy Janice McLaughlin Banks, age 70, a resident of Halifax Street, Williamston, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

Per her request, there will be no services.

Mrs. Banks was born in Framingham, Massachusetts, on Sept. 5, 1949. She was the daughter of the late Allston S. McLaughlin and Velma Greeley McLaughlin. Mrs. Banks graduated from Algonquin High School in Framingham and the Community College of Vermont. She worked as a freelance writer and editor for several newspapers, including the Barre Gazette in Barre, Massachusetts.

In her spare, Mrs. Banks enjoyed volunteering at wildlife sanctuaries. She was an advocate for preserving wildlife and nature.

On Sept. 24, 1967, she married Stephen M. Banks, who survives.

Surviving with her husband are her daughter, Tammy Jean Banks Bishop and her husband, Scott, of Holderness, New Hampshire; her son, Randy Michael Banks, of Arlington, Vermont; two grandchildren, Kaitlin Banks, of Arlington, Vermont, and Jordan Levesque, of Holderness, New Hampshire; two brothers, Ev McLaughlin and wife Sandy, of Gilford, New Hampshire, Phil McLaughlin and wife Kimberly, of Willow Springs, Missouri; niece, Sara Louca and her husband, Dani, of Apex; and nephew, Chris McLaughlin, of Raleigh.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Banks was preceded in death by a brother, Ollie McLaughlin.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to any non-profit organizations that help animals or people.
