Mr. Eddie James Bryant, age 85, a resident of Highway 33 East, Chocowinity, died Sunday, March 8, 2020, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.
The family will receive friends from 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.
A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory, conducted by Pastor Darren Walker and Randy Varni.
Mr. Bryant was born in Gaston County on July 16, 1934. He was the son of the late Linwood Cleveland “Pop” Bryant and Ada Elizabeth Groves Bryant. Mr. Bryant served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a retired meter technician with the City of Washington, with 54 years of service. Mr. Bryant was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Washington. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, bowling, puppy sitting, collecting coins, stamps and sports cards, woodworking and traveling to the mountains. Mr. Bryant loved watching DVDs and riding the train online.
On Nov. 22, 1979, he married the former Judy Carolyn Mayo, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are his children, Phyllis Woolard, of Columbia, Teresa Galloway, Brenda Manning, and Kathy Bryan, all of Washington, Jeffrey Kilby, of the home; brother, Roy Bryant, of Washington; two sisters, Betty Jean Moore, of Washington, Peggy Warren and husband Tommy, of Robersonville; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bryant was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends at other times at his home.
