Marvin Hugh Barnett Jr., age 77, of Graham, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 6, 2020, surrounded by his family at his home. He was a native of Beaufort County and the son of the late Marvin Hugh Barnett Sr. and Ellen Harriett Carter Barnett. He was the husband of 53 years to Lima Hedgepeth Barnett, who survives.

Hugh is survived by his wife and their three children and families: son Marvin and wife April Barnett; son Clifton and wife Alison Barnett and their son Aaron; daughter Edith and husband Jason Vann and their daughters Bridget and Madeline. He is also survived by his sister, Marie Huber. Hugh was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He and Lima were members of Riverside Baptist Church in Graham. In addition to family and the Lord, Hugh loved listening to music and cheering for the UNC Tarheels. Throughout his life, he maintained a passion for teaching and learning, both in the classroom and as a longtime Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church in Washington and at National Spinning.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, March 14, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Riverside Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Bob Stephenson. The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
