Dr. Robert Franklin Holz, of Belhaven, departed this life March 10, 2020, following surgical complications.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, on Jan. 30, 1941, to Nathan and Sofie Weinsaft Holz, he attended Forest Hills High School, Queens College and received his PHD from Boston University. He was a professor at American University and Boston University prior to accepting a position with Department of Defense. He proudly spent 30 years with Department of the Army, with his last position being the Acting Director for Personnel Technologies in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel at the Pentagon.

He loved his friends, his family and his life. He traveled the world but found his home in the small coastal town of Belhaven, where he and his wife owned and operated the Thistle Dew B & B. Predeceased by his parents, his sister, Rose Holz Senft, and his favorite aunt Lottie Fischel, he is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Patricia Barnhill Holz, and his children, son Jared M. Holz, daughter Rachel E. (Brad) Johnson, and stepsons Christian K. (Michelle) Barnhill and Patrick E. Barnhill. Honoring his wishes, there will be no funeral services. We will have a celebration of his life this summer.
