Anne Sheppard Noyes passed away on March 20, 2020, at Harmony Caregiving Home in Marietta, Georgia, at 89.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, on April 12, 1930, Anne and her husband William (1923-2016) retired to Washington, North Carolina, from the Washington, DC area, where they married in 1950 and lived for decades. Anne graduated from George Washington University in DC with a degree in mathematics, a rarity for women at the time. She came from a long line of teachers and began her own teaching career in 1950 at Surrattsville High School in Clinton, Maryland. Upon retiring from public-school education, she continued to teach math at St. Stephens/St. Agnes, a private high school in Alexandria, Virginia. Her motto, “Strict but fair,” earned her favorite teacher status by the many students she inspired over her 40-year career. Her dedication to her chosen profession was her greatest source of pride.

Survivors include her daughters, Connie Noyes and Cathie Newell; brother, Wayne Sheppard (Terri); four grandchildren, Kaly Mariano, William Mariano, Kyle Newell (Lauren); and Ryan Newell; nieces and nephews. No services will be held. Contributions may be made to Macland Presbyterian Church, 3615 Macland Road, Powder Springs, Georgia 30127. Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home, 180 Church St., Marietta, Georgia 30060 is in charge of arrangements.
