With a maximum lifespan of only 2 weeks, each Eastern Tiger Swallowtail has a short time to brighten up the world. Happily this butterfly species is with us spring to fall. Also happily with us are the amazing national wildlife refuge volunteers who help support wild lands and wildlife. And whose lifespans and thousands of volunteer hours of service far exceed the brief lifespan of the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail.

During National Volunteer Week April 19-25, and on behalf of wildlife and wild lands, we thank all who volunteer on our national wildlife refuges year ’round. These volunteers inspire us with their caring, hard work and dedication.
