Allen Elsworth Burrus, 85, of Swan Quarter, died on Thursday, April 30, 2020, at Windsor House in Windso.

Born in Dare County on May 29, 1934, he was the son of the late Robert and Lula Twiford Burrus. He was a member of the Engelhard Christian Church.

Allen served in the United States Navy during the period of the Korean conflict and was a member of the Hyde County American Legion. He spent his working years as a utility man working for Pamlico Power and Light Company as well as Tideland Electric.

A private graveside service will be held at the family plot in Soule Cemetery in Swan Quarter. Pastor Jerald Craddock will officiate.

Surviving is a son, Robert Burrus, and a daughter, Vickie Burrus, both of Engelhard.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Burrus, Johnny Burrus and Robert Everett; and two sisters, Carolyn Burrus O’Neal and Willie Estelle Burrus.

Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter.
