Nelda Marie Ward Newman, age 74, a resident of Chocowinity, died Thursday, April 30, 2020, at her home.

A private graveside service will be held at the Lacy Norman Downs Cemetery in Chocowinity and will be conducted by D.J. Maxey.

Mrs. Newman was born in Beaufort County on Aug. 15, 1945, to the late Marshall Floyd Ward and Maude Bright Ward. On Feb. 14, 1981, she married Robert W. Newman, who survives. She was a graduate of Chocowinity High School and a retired accountant. Mrs. Newman was a member of Haw Branch Church of Christ.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Lacey N. Huband and husband Matthew, of Chesterfield, Virginia; a son, Michael R. Newman; two grandchildren, Caitlyn Huband, Hayden Newman; three sisters, Jean Hutto, of Dallas, Texas, Norleen Brinson, of Washington, Lucille Ward and husband George, of Chocowinity; and a brother, Donald “Buddy” Ward, of Chocowinity.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Linda Cochran, and a brother, Richard Ward.
