COVID-19: state stats at a glance

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 24,057 Monday to 24,311 on Tuesday. There have been 796 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of six deaths overnight. The state currently has 621 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 14,954 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina, according to the Tuesday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

Beaufort County has had a total of 36 confirmed cases as of Tuesday. Thirty-four of the 36 confirmed cases have recovered from COVID-19. Two cases remain active.

Thirteen of Beaufort County’s positive cases were asymptomatic, meaning they experienced no symptoms.

The number of confirmed cases in the U.S. rose from 1,657,441 Monday to 1,671,728 cases Tuesday; these numbers include 379,157 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 5,550,399 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 98,636 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 602 overnight.

North Carolina has had confirmed cases in 100 counties.

Of Beaufort County’s total of 35 cases, contact tracing of these known, confirmed cases has concluded:

  • 16 cases have been attributed to direct contact with another known positive case;
  • two cases were related to travel to a known outbreak area;
  • 17 cases are attributed to community spread;
  • one case is under investigation.

All active cases are self-isolating, the update reads.

Eastern North Carolina counties with current cases include: Bertie (115), Beaufort (36), Bladen (94), Brunswick (76), Carteret (36), Camden (3), Chowan (15), Columbus (299), Craven (192), Currituck (11); Dare (22), Duplin (670), Edgecombe (190), Gates (23), Greene (66), Halifax (152), Hertford (72), Hyde (1), Jones (28), Lenoir (193), Martin (56), New Hanover (163), Northampton (144), Onslow (98), Pamlico (10), Pasquotank (96), Pender (72), Perquimans (23), Pitt (267), Sampson (409), Tyrrell (4), Washington (26), Wayne (1,031) and Wilson (321). Durham (1,333), Mecklenburg (3,403) and Wake (1,478) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 786 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Tuesday, with 742 negatives, 33 positives and 11 pending. These are cumulative numbers and include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county. Three of Beaufort County’s number were tested in other counties but are Beaufort County residents.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait 6 feet apart and wash your hands often.
