Melanie Armstrong has joined the Tyrrell County Board of Elections, elections director Emily Hodges reports.

Armstrong, retired register of deeds, was named to the five-member group by the State Board of Elections to succeed Darryl Liverman, who resigned in November 2019 prior to announcing his candidacy for county commissioner.

Other elections board members are Cecil Lilley (chairman), Edith Deltgen, Deborah Huth, and Inetta Knight, the latter being the senior members in terms of longevity.

The board oversees elections in Tyrrell County and is preparing now for the Nov. 3 election that includes president, U.S. senator and representative, governor, lieutenant governor, council of state, members of the General Assembly, judges, county commissioners, and soil and water board.
