James Monroe Carter Jr., 82, of Joe Mobley Road, Williamston, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2020, at his home.
Mr. Carter was born on Dec. 22, 1937, in Pennsylvania to the late James Carter Sr. and Emily Rodgers.
He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, having served 25 years; he served during Vietnam and was a sharpshooter.
He enjoyed building trailers and working with his hands. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife, Sophia Jane Beacham Carter.
Survivors include son, Jimmy Carter, of Greenville; brother, Bob Carter, of Virginia; sister, Norma Carter Grove, of Virginia.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020, at Macedonia Christian Church in the family life center, with Rev. Greg Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in the Rogerson family cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the committal service.
