Two vehicle accidents within 15 minutes Aug. 18

Two motor vehicle accidents in Tyrrell County of Aug. 18 occurred within 15 minutes of each other, the first on Sound Side Road and the second on N.C. 94 South.
Albin Bruce Brickhouse, 60, of Columbia was charged with failure to yield after he attempted to cross Sound Side Road near Owens Road north of Columbia on his lawn tractor and was struck by a vehicle driven by Sabre Dawn Adams, 27, of Washington, according to First Sgt. Respass of the State Highway Patrol. Brickhouse was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, underwent multiple surgeries, and released two days later, local sources indicated. Adams was not injured. The accident was reported at 4:35 p.m., Aug. 18.
The second accident, reported at 4:50 p.m., Aug 18, occurred on N.C. 94 at Rabbit Run Lane, five miles south of Columbia. Nicolus Kain Davenport, 21, of Jamesville, driving a 2000 Lincoln, was emerging from Rabbit Run when he collided with Sandra Sue Carawan, 52, of Columbia, who was driving a 2009 Toyota on N.C. 94, First Sgt. Respass reported. Both drivers were transported by Washington-Tyrrell EMS to Vidant Chowan Hospital in Edenton with non-life-threatening injuries. Davenport was charged with making unsafe movement.
The first sergeant said neither alcohol nor speed were factors in either accident.
