The Tyrrell Volunteer Fire Department’s very popular pork barbecue dinner and the JR Simmons 4-Wheelin’ Rally have been postponed, Joie Spencer, fire marshal, has announced.
“Just wanted to let you folks know that the TVFD BBQ Dinner has been postponed due the COVID-19 pandemic for the safety of you and of our fire department members,” Spencer wrote in a late August email. “It’s not canceled just postponed until later this year, hopefully in December. TVFD will announce the date once it is confirmed.”
Spencer regrets the inconvenience “because we sure enjoy making the BBQ and seeing the people of the community enjoying the BBQ.”
He also announced that the JR Simmons 4Wheelin’ Rally has been postponed, also on account of the coronavirus pandemic, until March or April 2021.
Spencer suggested that TVFD may have two rallies in 2021, spring and fall.
“We are very sorry for this inconvenience because we sure enjoy having the TVFD JR Simmons 4Wheelin’ Rally and enjoy seeing all the participants riding the trails, having fun and getting muddy with us,” he explained.
Tyrrell Volunteer Fire Department is a private, nonprofit corporation that provides fire prevention and suppression services to the Town of Columbia and to Tyrrell County.
