Lanie Boyette Cox, of Washington, slipped away peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 12, 2020, to be with her mother in heaven. Born Sept. 21, 1977, in Beaufort County to Mayhew Paul Cox and the late Jean Wynn Cox, she is survived by a faithful sister, Katie Cox Gaylor and husband Jeff, of Greenville.

She graduated from Washington High School class of 1995 and East Carolina University with a degree in Fine Arts and Textiles.

She leaves behind her aunt Sally Houston (Bartow), uncles Floyd (Mac) Cox III, William Samuel Miles Cox, Jim Wynn(Carolyn), of Ocracoke, Jon Wynn, of Snow Camp, Paul Wynn (Joan), of Greenville, and numerous cousins.

Lanie had a passion for art and enjoyed painting and was an excellent seamstress. The love of her life was her adopted four-legged friend and protector Azeal (Azzy).

Before the pandemic, Lanie enjoyed her job as a waitress at Shep’s Grill. She had many regular customers that knew her well. Lanie was an accomplishment athlete in high school as a cheerleader and chief that earned a position on the All-Star squad where she traveled to Hawaii to cheer at the Hulu Bowl.

She loved watching college and professional sports, especially UNC basketball and Raven’s football.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials in memory of Lanie be made to the Human Society of Beaufort County, P.O. Box 33, Washington, NC 27889. You can send condolences to the family online at www.josephpaulfdl.com.
